Bone Broth Hot Chocolate: A Ritual for Deep Nourishment
I love this recipe. It doesn't scream wellness. It doesn’t wear athleisure. It doesn’t ask to be optimized.
It just… nourishes.
This is the kind of drink you make when your body wants something real. When your nervous system is asking for warmth, minerals, fats, and steadiness. When you want comfort, but not the kind that leaves you crashing an hour later.

The Recipe (Measured With the Heart)
You’ll need:
- Beef bone broth (I used to make this myself, but I'm on mom-time now)
- Maple syrup
- Cacao powder
- Raw milk (or gently warmed milk of choice)
- A pinch of sea salt
- Optional: one raw egg yolk (I raise chickens, so this one doesn't scare me, but feel free to leave it out)
- Optional: A scoop of grassfed collagen
- Optional: A Simple Tincture (my recs are listed below, but my fav is Milky Oats)
How to make it:
- Pour your bone broth into a small pot and warm gently over low-medium heat.
- Add maple syrup and whisk to dissolve.
- If using an egg yolk, whisk it in slowly while the broth is warm so it incorporates smoothly.
- Whisk in cacao powder until rich and glossy.
- Add a splash of raw milk and a pinch of sea salt.
- If you're using collagen (which I usually do, but ran out), this is where you add it. Add the tincture here, too.
- Froth with an electric frother (or whisk with enthusiasm).
- Pour into your favorite mug. Drink slowly. Exhale.
Why Bone Broth Hot Chocolate Works
This isn’t just a cozy drink (I mean, of COURSE IT IS, but also) it’s a tissue-nourishing, nervous-system-supportive elixir.
Bone broth brings:
- Glycine and proline for connective tissue, gut lining, and nervous system calm
- Minerals that support adrenal and cellular function
- A grounding, warming quality that signals safety to the body
Cacao offers:
- Magnesium for muscles and nerves
- Gentle vasodilation and circulation support
- A heart-opening, mood-lifting effect without the spike of coffee
Raw milk & egg yolk (optional) add:
- Fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, K2)
- Choline for brain and nervous system health
- A creamy, satiating quality that keeps blood sugar steady
Grass-fed collagen adds:
- Concentrated amino acids that support skin, joints, ligaments, and fascia
- Additional glycine to promote relaxation, sleep quality, and nervous system regulation
- Structural support for tissues under stress, during healing, or in seasons of depletion
This is comfort food that actually feeds you.

A Note on Raw Ingredients (Important, Please Read)

- Pregnant individuals
- Immunocompromised individuals
- Young children
If this applies to you, consider:
- Using gently pasteurized milk
- Skipping the egg yolk, or using a pasteurized egg yolk product
