Welcome!

Welcome!

Welcome to Morningstar Medicinals! My name is Dannica, which means Morningstar. I am a mixed Mvskoke woman and the herbalist behind MM.🌿

My online shop is still under construction, but I want to take a moment to share the philosophy of Morningstar Medicinals.

As an indigenous woman, good medicine and good relations are important to me and reflect in the way I harvest and prepare my plant relatives. As such, MM is a company free of essential oils. I will make another post describing in depth what EOs are, but in the interest of brevity, I will simply say that they are highly unsustainable for the environment, requiring unfathomable amounts of plant material to create the oils. Instead, I work with whole plant medicines. All of my medicines are wild harvested and/or organic and sourced locally when available. When I can’t find what I’m looking for, only then will I buy from a trusted supplier. All of our medicines are small batch and hand crafted with prayers and thanksgiving.

I believe in food sovereignty and reciprocity. Tending your own garden and animals, giving your time and energy for a precious exchange of nourishment, and preparing your own food are big ways that we can take back control of our health. MM offers handmade homestead items, such as gatherer’s aprons, cooking aprons, reusable bags, reusable non-paper towels, and more to infuse good medicine into your homesteading experience. We use all of our fabric scraps to make scrunchies and limited edition “scrap aprons.” Nothing goes to waste. All of our homestead boutique items are crafted by myself and my mother, a master seamstress.

We reuse shipping materials. Packaging aesthetics are important to us because we care about the quality and presentation of our products. But we also care deeply about reusing materials when we can, so our packing may not always match. I save good material from orders I receive and I reuse it in my shipments I send out.

You can be assured that when supporting Morningstar Medicinals that you are also supporting sustainability and good relations with our earth. 🌎🌱🪶
